Chinese Taught in English

CTE ( Chines Taught in English): This program is aimed at students whose first language is not Chinese. BoHua offers four levels of the CTE program: CTE-1 through CTE-4. After completing each level, students have the option of taking the YCT test. The YCT (Youth Chinese Test) is a standardized examination for elementary, middle, and high school students to evaluate their proficiency in the Chinese language. Upon passing the YCT tests, the graduate receives a certificate from the Confucius Institute certifying their fluency.

CTE-1: This course is designed for entry level Chinese students. Students will learn 80 commonly used words and related grammar patterns. They will be able to understand and use some of the most common Chinese phrases and sentences, possessing the ability to further their Chinese language studies. Prerequisite: none

CTE-2: Students will learn 150 commonly used words and related grammar patterns. They will be able to understand and use some simple Chinese phrases and sentences as well as engage in basic communications. Prerequisite: CTE-1

CTE-3: Students will learn 450 common words and related grammar patterns. Students have reached a beginning- to intermediate-level of Chinese. They will be able to produce simple and direct communications on familiar daily topics in a simple manner. Prerequisite: CTE-2

CTE-4: Students will learn 600 and above common words as well as related grammar patterns. Students have reached an intermediate level of fluency. When traveling in China, they can manage most forms of communication in Chinese. Prerequisite: CTE-3
